Check Engine Light Diagnostics
Why is my Check Engine Light on?
There are a number of reasons why your check engine light will turn on, so it is important to bring your vehicle in to get a diagnostic test right away.
Today’s vehicles are equipped with highly sophisticated electronic engine control systems. Your vehicle’s on-board computer receives information from a network of sensors and switches that tells your ignition, fuel and emission control systems what to do. The check engine light is a signal that the on-board diagnostics system has detected a malfunction. Here are just a few common reasons:
- Failing catalytic converter
- Failing mass airflow sensor
- Faulty oxygen sensor
- Loose or damaged gas cap
- Worn spark plugs
